Standard 1: Student will be able to use a language other than English for Communication.

The NY State Board of Regents voted to eliminate state-wide Regents exams in Languages Other Than English in 2012, as a cost-saving measure, but to require Language Departments to develop equivalent end-of-basic-program exams that will serve to assess their students’ comprehension and fluency in the target language. In 2012 the FLACS exam replaced the Regents exam. Students who are in the Italian or Spanish Honor Societies are prepared to take the FLACS exam in 10th grade. They take college level courses in 11th grade.
The passing score for these assessments remains 65, except for students who take the exam at the end of their second year of study. For these students the passing score remains 85. As in the past, students who wish to attain a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation must take and pass this assessment.
