The “Big Four”
The main officers of the Student Council of Preston High School
President
- Should be a senior of Preston High School
- Presides over all weekly meetings of the Student Council
- Must be present at all Student Council functions
- Serves as a representative of Preston’s Student Council and student body
- Must check the Student Council mailbox and voice mail daily and respond accordingly
- Prepares agenda for weekly Student Council meetings
- Presides over all other functions of the Student Government
Vice-President
- Should be a senior of Preston High School
- Must attend every weekly Student Council meeting
- Takes the place of the president when she is absent or disabled
- Is responsible for daily PA announcements including faculty and student birthdays
- Must ensure the timeliness of class bells
- Is chairperson of all matters regarding lockers and locks
- Must work in conjunction with the treasurer to ensure the recognition of faculty birthdays
Secretary
- Should be a senior of Preston High School
- Must attend and record minutes of every weekly meeting of the Student Council
- Is in charge of all clerical matters connected with the Student Council
- Must keep an accurate record of attendance at all Student Council meetings and address those students whose attendance record is inconsistent
- Is responsible for distributing Student Council minutes and Daily Bulletins to each homeroom via homeroom pouches
Treasurer
- Should be a senior of Preston High School
- Must attend every weekly Student Council meeting
- Is responsible for all the funds connected with the Student Council
- Must make herself available in the balloon store by at least 7:30AM
- Must collaborate with the vice president to ensure the recognition of faculty birthdays
- Makes all purchases for Student Council functions
Class Leadership
The officers of each grade level
President
- One sophomore, junior, and senior member of the Student Council
- Attends every weekly Student Council meeting
- Leads her respective class in participation in all school activities
- Is general chairwoman of all activities for her class and works with grade-level mentors to plan these activities
Treasurer
- Assists class president in planning and running all class events
- Attends every weekly Student Council meeting
- Keeps an account of all money spent by the class
- NOTA BENE: In the event that a class president is unable to fulfill her duties for any reason, the following succession pattern will occur. A replacement candidate will be nominated by members of the grade’s Executive Board and approved by the Dean of Students and the Big 9.
Homeroom Representatives

Vice President
- Must attend general Student Council meetings on the first Monday of the month.
- Reads Daily Bulletin in her homeroom after morning announcements
- Informs students of upcoming occasions (ie: dress-down days)
- Works closely with homeroom mentor and homeroom secretary
Secretary
- Must attend general Student Council meetings in vice president’s absence
- Records the collection of dress-down money
- Works closely with homeroom mentor and homeroom vice-president
- Must ensure homeroom mentor’s verification of attendance
Executive Board
The officers of the Executive Board of Student Council
President
- Should be a senior of Preston High School
- Must attend every weekly Student Council meeting
- Publishes announcements on electronic board
- Oversees the implementation of events between Student Council and class Executive Boards
Vice President for Financial Affairs
- Should be a senior of Preston High School
- Must attend every weekly Student Council meeting
- Must receive and count dress-down dollars from the whole school and report debtors to appropriate administrator
- Works with extra-curricular moderator to keep an account of money for individual clubs
- Works with financial officers
Vice President for Clerical Affairs
- Should be a senior of Preston High School
- Must attend every weekly Student Council meeting
- Ensures the collection of homeroom pouches by members of the Junior Executive Board, none of whom is a junior ambassador
Vice President of the Bookstore
- Should be a senior of Preston High School
- Must attend every weekly Student Council meeting
- Works closely with book store manager
- Supervises work-study students in the bookstore
Class Executive Board Officers (Junior, Sophomore, and Freshman President and VP)
- Must attend every weekly Student Council meeting
- Serves as a link between her class’s Executive Board and the general Student Council
- Oversees all meetings and actions of their class’ Executive Board.
General Members
- Representatives of Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Classes
- Must attend every weekly Student Council meeting
- Responsible for aiding in and implementing grade-level events
