Welcome!
Welcome to Preston, where we are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community for all.  Explore our efforts to promote unity, understanding, and compassion within our school!

What does Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion mean at Preston?
At Preston, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is more than a concept; it's the heart of our community. Rooted in Preston’s virtues of dignity, honor, respect, and compassion, our school's curriculum, programs, and culture are all dedicated to nurturing a diverse and inclusive community marked by fairness and transparency. At our core, we embrace the values of dignity, honor, and respect for all.

We've worked diligently to create a safe environment that encourages allyship and fosters meaningful dialogues about racism, bias, and antiracism both within Preston and in the broader community. Our commitment extends to raising cultural and inclusive consciousness among our school leaders, faculty, students, parents, and families. We provide professional development and leadership training that covers inclusion, racism, bias, and antiracism.

At Preston, we not only talk the talk but walk the walk. We encourage community involvement, advocacy, and service within our school, the wider community, and the world. We believe that each one of us can make a difference.

Lastly, we're committed to supporting healthy self-reflection and relationship building among all members of the Preston community. Our goal is to create an environment where every voice is heard, and every individual feels valued. We invite you to be part of this journey as we collectively work towards a more equitable and inclusive future at Preston and beyond.

Our DEI Mission Statement
We, the Preston school leaders, faculty, students, parents, and alumnae, are dedicated to the promotion of equity and inclusion at Preston and in the broader community.  We envision a community where everyone is welcomed, seen, heard, and valued. We are committed to cultivating a safe environment where everyone’s voice is respected and heard without judgment by integrating Preston’s charism of compassion, diversity, and inclusion into the school’s curriculum, programs, and culture.

What are our DEI initiatives?
DEI Homeroom: Monthly interactive sessions where students and teachers come together to discuss important cultural topics. These conversations are centered around our core values and promote critical thinking and compassion.

Here are pillars to the DEI Homeroom curriculum:

Our commitment to Racial Equity and Antiracism is rooted in the belief that everyone should be treated with fairness, justice, and dignity, regardless of their racial background. We are dedicated to dismantling systemic racism, promoting racial equity, and cultivating a school environment where all individuals, regardless of their racial identity, feel valued, heard, and respected.

We celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures and religions that make up our school community. Our goal is to foster cultural and religious understanding, creating an inclusive environment where everyone can learn, share, and appreciate the diverse traditions and beliefs that enrich our lives.

Kindness and compassion are the foundation of our community. We believe in the power of small gestures and actions that create a more caring and empathetic environment.

Perspective-taking is at the core of our approach to DEI. We encourage our students, faculty, and community members to step into the shoes of others, listen to diverse viewpoints, and embrace the value of different lived experiences.

Allyship is a cornerstone of our DEI efforts. We believe that it's not enough to be non-discriminatory; we actively strive to be anti-discriminatory. Allyship is about supporting and advocating for individuals and groups who face discrimination or bias, even if those experiences are not our own.
