Compassion

This week's service spotlight goes to Ariana Estevez. Ariana spends her service time volunteering at Montefiore Hospitals's Pediatric Emergency Department.  She volunteers as a “doctor's apprentice.”  She confirms patient information, retrieves equipment needed for procedures, and responds to any patients' requests for food and refreshments.  Ariana’s service has allowed her to witness and be a part of a diverse community, and sharpen her communication and teamwork skills. When asked to describe her service, she says, "When passion and the selfless intention to serve others is applied to something obligatory, the recompense is incomparable gratification in seeing them benefit from my efforts. In turn, it unquestionably overrides the mere relief of meeting a requirement.”
