Investing in Preston High School’s Future

Today’s Legacy, Tomorrow’s Promise—the Campaign for PHS, began in 2005, and raised more than $1.7 million towards a science and technology suite that now houses four state-of-the-art science laboratories as well as two fully-equipped computer labs .  This first phase of our campaign aligns with our stated goal to encourage our students to pursue careers in science, technology and engineering, areas in which women are traditionally under-represented.

Women in today’s educational environment need to be prepared to participate in a world where scientific breakthroughs are playing an ever increasing role in our daily lives. Nationally, young women are entering college preparing for more science-related professions at a higher rate than they were 10 years ago. Technologically up-to-date, fully equipped, comprehensive Science Laboratories open new possibilities for PHS students to explore the sciences and position them to succeed in any facet of life they may choose.

Construction on the roof and on the 2nd floor of the Main Building began on June 23, 2011 and concluded in time for the first day of school in September. On October 6th, students, parents, alumnae, current and former teachers, staff and administrators, past and present members of the Board of Trustees, and Friends of Preston gathered to celebrate completion of this phase of construction.  The newly named Calder Science and Technology Corridor was blessed and dedicated and guests toured the new facilities.  Honored at this celebration were The Louis Calder Foundation, the Patrick Keegan Family (parents Marion & Patrick Keegan and daughters Eileen ’79, Jeanne ’77, Patricia ’75 and Ann Marie ’74 in memoriam), and Theresa (Hill) ’74 and Jay Sheehy, whose early and generous contributions helped to jump-start Phase One of our capital campaign.

In order to make this dream a reality, we must continue to secure five year commitments to the Campaign. A Tree of Recognition stands proudly in our main lobby as a permanent tribute to those who have so generously supported our efforts. These commitments are a thanks for what has been and a gift to the next generation of Prestonites.

All at PHS extend our sincere thanks for the great generosity and investment in our students. When students are the beneficiaries of others’ trust, we hope that they will, one day, return the favor by passing on the legacy that changed their lives to others.
